Protecting Your Brand Online - Google Pay Per Click

Monday, August 15th, 2011

WallCann, winner of 2 iAwards (Export Award Category and the e-Inclusion and e-Community Category Award), continuously strives to help clients and provide tips on how to protect their brands online.
Recently a WallCann client noticed that one of their competitors online were using their brand name in their Google Pay Per Click campaign. This can be a serious breach of Google’s trademark policy.
In Order to fix this trademark breach, this was what WallCann suggested –

1 - Send an email to the violating company concerned –Trademark owner would need to bring this to their notice and let them know of the Trademark Breach. Trademark Owner would also need to ask them to remove all mentions of YOUR companies trademark from their “Keyword Operator” syntax in Google PPC. They may be able to target each word separately, but a mention of them together forms part of your brand name which they are currently violating.
2 - Submitting Trademark to Google – Incase your brand name is a registered trademark, in your respective country, you can automatically restrict others from using this in any marketing activities through Google Paid advertising online. Please visit the link https://services.google.com/inquiry/aw_tmcomplaint and follow the instructions mentioned.
3 – False Claims - There are no rules online that restrict anyone from making claims that they are one of the market leaders in certain “products”. But if you think that this is false advertising you can very well challenge this with the company itself by asking them to prove it. However there are Australian rules in advertising which can be applied. Passing off is a serious claim and should be referred to qualified legal practitioner. Preferably someone experienced in internet cases.

WallCann can set up and start your own PPC campaign and manage it for you increasing sales and traffic to your site. This will help and build your case further while submitting your trademark to Google.
We strongly suggest we help you start your own Google AdWords campaign. After setup you can select a running cost to suit your budget.

WallCann Embed System - Features and Benefits

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

WallCann has now developed an Embed System(Similar to YouTube) that makes life a lot easier for our advocates. Like YouTube, it provide value to both the host site, and to the users of that site.

We have an Embed system in place which can help you to embed links on your website, and source these product feeds.

This basically helps our advocates to concentrate on the Marketing and Generating Pre-sell content to sell products while leaving the product information, pricing updates , shipping quotes, Pre Order Status..etc to us

To make sure that the Embed tool does not affect your website in any way in terms of SEO..etc, WallCann has made sure the Embed System has the following features.

  • Content Visible to Search Engines—The Major SEO Consideration
You would be aware that on most online forums people do say that embedding feeds using Java Script is not good from an SEO point of view. WallCann has taken care that this does not affect our present set of advocates and has included a NOSCRIPT tag in the embed feed. This helps search engines to read information within the feed and will not affect SEO or rankings in any way.
  • Duplicate Content
Advocates can build around the product information content by adding your own Unique Pre-sell information to suit your website or marketing needs. This solves the duplicate content problem that one might face since most of the advocates pull the same product information.
  • Accessibility
WallCann has made sure that advocates can choose a format that works for the audience you are trying to reach. If blogs or Social Media are important to you, select the appropriate option from our Embed tool.
  • Sharing
In terms of viral marketing, this is the big one. When someone sees your website and product, we now make it easy for them to grab it and put it on their own site.T
They can you grab the code right from the body of the embed system that has your advocate code already embedded in the product feed. This enables you to build your own advocate down line earning some T2 commissions along the way as well.
  • Branding
The primary goal of your Embed system is to provide clear WallCann branding on products. This in no way would dilute your own website branding , but helps people to know that all logistics ,shipping, customer enquiries and warranty issues will be handled by WallCann. This helps in freeing you from all the hassles and lets you concentrate on what you do best Marketing!!

New Google Ad Extension Formats

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Not only does Google continually refine and improve their organic listings for users , Adwords is making leaps and bounds to show the most relevant ads to users.

The latest changes to Google AdWords are more ‘extensions’ options. While still in their infancy, these new ad formats are currently being utilised by WallCann’s Marketing team and are already influencing the way search engine users find information on products sold on the WallCann 365 Platform.

Below are the various Extensions with live examples of WallCann’s Google Campaign run for an advocate site – PerformanceShop.com.au

1. Ad Site links
We’ve already become accustomed to seeing larger sites showing up in the Free Search engine Result Pages with site links – making it much easier to head right to the most important section.

Site Links

Site Links

Apply this same concept to AdWords and you’ve got Google Site Links. By adding site links into the AdWords ad, advertisers give users the option of clicking on the most relevant options within that site. You can enter upto 10 Site links at once. Although Google will only show maximum 4 links at a time depending on the Search query and relevancy to the Keyword Searched.

2. Location Extensions
These show a physical map and address (as an expansion) within the ad.

3. Phone Extensions.
Phone extensions are a must have for those whose business relies on phone rather than email or e-commerce interaction. There is an added bonus, if your ad appears on a Smartphone with a full web browser, the user can click on the ad and call directly.

4. Product Extensions
You must register and have your products loaded in Google Merchant Centre, which is free. When the ad appears across the top, users are invited to see your relevant products. Again, there is no fee until they click on the actual products.

WallCann is currently experimenting with this option as well and will share reviews and screenshots once we get our products listed on the Merchant Centre.

Strong Aussie dollar “bullies” local retailers

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

The strong Aussie dollar and less than honest on-line trading practices are combining to rob Australian consumers of a fair deal, claims Mr Clive Wallace, CEO of WallCann 365.

Strong aussie Dollar Bullies Local Retailers

“The strong Australian dollar has meant two things, one, it has become very expensive to manufacture in Australia so the people who control the money are looking for cheaper places to invest,” Mr Wallace says. “Two, they are investing heavily in the Australian banking sector to take advantage of the higher interest rates being offered by Australian banks.

“The irony is Australian banks are flush with overseas money but Australian industry is being deprived of investors which means our manufacturing industry is heading North to China, India and S.E Asia at a rapid rate.

“If this goes on much longer I’m not convinced the manufacturing sector will be able to recover in my lifetime.” A further compounding factor is the high commodity prices that are giving the economy an appearance of health.

“But,” according to Mr Wallace, “it is a false glow because a lot of that money is flowing offshore as multi nationals search for cheaper environments in which to make their products.”

And if all that wasn’t bad enough, Mr Wallace claims the internet is being usurped by traditional off-line businesses that are bringing non economically viable models with poor overseas based service practices and a sloppy retail culture on-line, thereby robbing the Australian consumer of a fair go.

“The lure of the internet is not only convenience, but competitively priced items that allow the consumer to stretch their buying power,” explained Mr Wallace, “but what the big off-line retailers are doing is simply transferring their off-line model to on-line and effectively pretending to be an on-line business.

“The reason on-line items in Australia are so much more expensive than on-line items in America and Europe is that the big on-line operators in Australia are factoring their enormous real estate holdings into the price. A major store with a prominent CBD presence charges for the upkeep of those very expensive premises with every item it sells on-line, despite the fact on-line operators do not need an expensive off-line presence.

“The result is an inflated pricing structure that is, in effect, ripping off Australian on-line shoppers.

“To add insult to injury, because these major off-line businesses do not understand the internet, their websites can be difficult to use. Websites with too many hoops for the user to jump through, means consumers are also being robbed of the convenience factor.

“The model being employed by some unscrupulous operators is to source the cheapest goods possible, almost invariably from China, and sell them for top price to an unsuspecting and trusting public. Or worse, open online virtual stores in China or elsewhere, taking away even the retail jobs from Australia.

“The solution is to build a transition or bridge between online and off line shopping in Australia. It will need honesty in pricing and ramping up the quality of the Australian live help online service to buyers. Our research has established Australian consumers would rather buy on-line from a local supplier at a fair price coupled to great service. Wherever possible WallCann sources and sells Australian made.

“Paying the GST is a minor issue, quality local Australian support and services are much more important.”
